Mac Mini Overclock

Been looking around the net for more Mac Mini information regarding the Mac Mini update rumour and found some interesting tidbits on the Mac Mini.

It turns out both the high-end and low-end Mac Minis are running the same MC7447 processor, just that it’s clocked differently.

Clockspeed is controlled by four resisters beneath the CPU. The resisters are darn small, a few milimeters long each so you’d better have good hands before you attempt this.

Possible speeds for the processor are 1.25GHz, 1.42GHz, 1.50GHz and 1.58GHz.

Check these links out for howtos on the resister combinations:

This should be a good hack once your Mac Mini’s warranty has expired. Apparently there are no heat and reliability issues for speeds up to 1.42GHz as the processors are underclocked in the first place.
